Spaghetti Weston
The Royal Engineers Museum in Gillingham tells the story of the Royal Engineers and how they have helped the British Army live, move and fight for over 300 years. Its collection of more than a million items is Designated as an outstanding collection of international significance.
Spaghetti Weston designed and built a custom WordPress theme for the museum, and hosts the site. It gives visitors one clear place to plan a visit, see what’s on, explore the collection and support the museum.
The palette takes its lead from the Royal Engineers’ blue and red, balanced with pale steel, teal and plenty of white space so the collection’s photography does the talking.

Every section opens with a full-width photograph and a deep blue title band, with its own links in a pale steel bar beneath the main menu, so visitors always know where they are.
Sections hand over with a notched, arrow-like edge that pulls the eye down the page. The introduction pairs the collection’s highlights, from 25 Victoria Crosses to a Harrier Jump Jet, with Tripadvisor and VisitEngland awards.
Six large image tiles route visitors straight to visiting, the collection, learning, families, supporting the museum and joining the Friends of the Royal Engineers Museum.
Events become cards with large, readable dates and times, from monthly sessions for under-fives to the Wartime Christmas weekend.
Long-form features such as War Winning Engineering pair archive photography with links into dedicated online exhibitions.
On a phone the layout stacks into a single column, the main menu opens as a full-screen panel and the Start your visit today tab becomes Book tickets, always within reach.

The museum’s red-brick home and its archive photographs give the site its character, from Sappers on motorcycles to Sappers at work.
